Question about astronomy eyepiece for hobbyists?

On astronomy eyepiece which have both a 1.25" and 2" barrel, can the 1.25" barrel be unscrewed and removed if you have a 2" focuser? I am looking at the Celestron Ultima LX eyepieces in particular. I live hours from the nearest astronomy store or I'd go play with them myself.

The drugs without a prescription short answer is yes. The 1.25" adapter may help you with long focus travel - which would be for focusing on nearby objects, like the neighbor's window. But if i've got a 2" eyepiece, i take out the adapter.

I do have a "try before you buy" rule. When i've broken it, it hasn't worked for me. When i've followed the rule, everything has worked great. In many cases, i can try stuff at the local astronomy eyepiece club.
