Can Someone Help Me Choose To Buy A Telescope.i Am So Confused.?
Ok the thing is i really want a telescope that can make me see the planets, important stars, constellations and other universal objects.Every time i go out and look at the stars,i feel so lost because i don't know how to locate any constellations, planets or other objects.I feel like a complete dummy and i want to discover what is out here.It looks amazing and i am sure if i knew more about it,it would even be more amazing and not as vague as i always think it is.So should i make my own telescope/binocular or buy this telescope.Plus can binoculars be an alternative to telescopes.
This is the telescope i have decided to buy.It is cheap compared to others. It costs like 202 dollars plus what do u think of it from the description.
Spectra Optics Telescope 600x50
A telescope is a learning and discovery tools suitable for both young and old alike. This model is bigger and has much better optics than the telescope that Galileo Galilei used his astronomical discoveries of hundreds of years ago. Magnification is from 30-100x. (5x24 mm) helps you efficiently with coarse calibration, while the stand allows easy and precise assembly. Weight including stand 3.1 kg. Focal Length 600 mm. Lens Diameter: 50 mm. Lev incl 2 pcs eyepiece.

I agree with the others. This is a very basic scope and if that price is accurate it is obscene. The Gallileoscope has essentaily similar specs and costs $20, not $200 although you will need a camera tripod for it as well.
Any of the scopes below cost around the same or less and have far more light grab, gving better views, and judging by the weight of that scope will be far more stable as well – a critically important factor at high magnifications. However, a good telescoep is a large purchase, even for a starter model, so you are best advised to read up first before buying. Then buy from a specialist not a dpeartment store, toy shop or catalogue.
Total waste of money, not even good as a door stop. Lenses are too small. Stand is too light and shakey. Go to a meeting of local astronomy club. Talk to members. View through good scopes.
http://www.skyandtelescope.com has a search function for clubs and contacts.
I agree with Starrysky. Another good place to go is CloudyNights.com; they have discussion forums and used telescopes for sale!
Hi -
I really think you are buying a scope prematurely. You will be disappointed in the scope you described. It will result in endless frustration, and it will sit in the closet unused. You would be much better off with a reasonable binocular. All of the amateur astronomers I know use them all the time.
You said you want to see the planets, the important stars, the constellations, and other objects. Like most beginners (like me 40 years ago) you have very little understanding of what to point a telescope at. No offense, we all started the same way.
I think you have a few steps to take before considering buying a telescope. First, I would highly recommend that you go buy a copy of a decent book with easy-to-use charts. “Nightwatch” by T. Dickinson, is excellent, so is “turn Left at Orion” by G. Consolmagno. Go outside with your book – don’t even take a binocular – and learn a little about where to find things in the night sky. You don’t need any magnification at all to see the constellations, the major stars (they look the same through a scope anyway), or most of the planets. It may take a few nights to get familiar with the fall constellations, but once you learn them, they will become like old friends. Now take a binocular out and look for a few of the brighter targets. You will find that the planets look like little disks – although you won’t see any detail. You will easily see bright star clusters, and some amazing features on the lunar surface. On a clear night, you can even see the nearest spiral galaxy (the view of this galaxy is actually better through binoculars than most scopes). All of these targets are shown on the charts in a way that will make it easy for you to find them in the sky, if you take a few hours to do it. Patience is essential.
Once you learn the night sky (I would check it out during the winter and spring season as well), look up your local astronomy club on line and attend a few open observing sessions – maybe next summer. Don’t be shy about going, you will receive a warm welcome and a chance to look at some of those targets through some pretty decent instruments. As you look through the various scopes, learn what you like about each one. Once you know what kind of scope you want (this is sort of a personal and highly variable decision depending on the interests of each observer), then – and only then – go see a reputable local dealer and see what it takes to buy one. The club members can steer you toward a good dealer, but don’t buy a scope from a department store or a second hand internet site. They will not be able to help you when you need help. We all need help.
I am sorry that I cannot recommend a good scope for you to buy today. But that would be sort of pointless if you don’t know where to point it when you get it home. Patience is essential in this hobby. Now is the time to start.
Nearby Jl. Jaksa, there is Jl. Cemara. A nice 3-star Hotel Cemara is located there. Also one of Ibis Hotel chain in Jl. Wahid Hasyim. These are the nearest roads with the city center. When you do the room booking, you might want to request an airport pick-up from the hotel , usually cost IDR 150,000-200,000 (USD 15-20). I don't think a good taxi service will be available in the airport if it's near midnight.
Other 3-star hotels are available in North Jakarta or in Menteng suburbs (Central Jakarta), but it's quite far from the main avenue Jl. Thamrin.
Thank you for visiting Indonesia
I'm so confused! Conversations going on Twitter, Facebook, AIM, and through text! Ahhhh.
As a person who isn’t a frothing at the mouth Apple fanboy, if you showed me this and said it was fine to evaluate my pictures on, I’d show you the door until you came back with something larger with better resolution.
