Is Binoculars Useful For Observing Astronomical Events?

Absolutely Yes. No self respecting amateur astronomer would be without his binoculars. I have 10x50, which is a little higher magnification than the "standard" 7X50 recommended for astronomy, but some amateurs go for giant ones, like 15x100 and larger. Binoculars are very good for viewing comets, larger galaxies, nebulae and star clusters, especially from a really dark area. Many such objects are quite large, but dim. For example, the famous Andromeda galaxy actually appears several times BIGGER than the Moon does, although it isn't nearly as bright. And binoculars are easily taken along in the car to those remote places where you have to go to see really dark skies.

Speaking of Thuban, if you want to find it, a quick way to to look at the Big Dipper. Almost everybody knows the two outer stars of the bowl point towards Polaris but they might not know the two inner stars of the bowl point to Thuban. Those stars are Phecda and Megrez.

It depends on the individual's lifestyle. If they get out and about visiting outside of the home a lot it could be helpful. In the home it would be overkill.
No, there is no system to provide a guide dog and a caregiver for the dog as well. A person who isn't capable of caring for a service dog of any kind, including guide dogs, shouldn't have one.
A cane requires no care and performs the same essential functions of a guide dog. It costs nothing to maintain and around $50 to get compared to at least $6,000 over the life of a dog (even if you get it donated, which is rarely the case).
If she's just lonely and wants a pet, look into therapy dog programs. Volunteers take their carefully screened, certified and insured pets into hospitals and nursing homes to visit patients and cheer them up. Patients get to pet and play with the animals but at the end of the visit the owner takes the dog home and provides all care.

Well the wiper warmer is the most useless thing we perchased. We don't even hardly use it, and by the time the wipe touches his butt is not even all that warm! We have the diaper genie II and is a life save. Our little boy lays down so stinky diapers that a trash can could not handle. Honestly, the most valuable thing that we have is our rain forest swing. It is WONDERFUL and totally worth the $120 we spent on it because, one it brings a smile to his face when he is in it, two it rocks him to sleep when nothing else will work, and three it works so well on the nights that you need some sleep to just put the baby in the swing and let him/her while you catch some zzz!! The rain forest swing is definely number 1!! Bottle sanitizer is a close 2nd. I breastfeed and I am constantly washing the flages and bottles, and rather than boiling water and trying to wait for the bottles the sanitizer is a life saver and time saver!
