SHould I get a pair of Pentax binoculars or a Nikon pair?
Ville Noer Asked:
was looking for binoculars, and I found two pairs in my budget range (around $125), the Nikon Binoculars Action Extreme 8x40 for $121, and the Pentax Binoculars PCF WP II 8X40 for $149, so which one is better?
Reply:
The Nikon has a wider field of view than the Pentax binoculars, but the Pentax binoculars has a longer eye relief. If you wear glasses, the Pentax binoculars will do better for you. Otherwise the Nikon would seem to be the winner because of the price.
My concern is that neither of these have Fully Multi Coated lenses. The Nikon is only Multi Coated, the Pentax binoculars has no info on coating type. Fully Multi Coated (FMC) lenses will give you the brightest images.

Pentax Binoculars at PropertyRoom.com
It makes a bit off difference and it expands the view a bit more making it a bit more panoramic.
If you have a beer budget…
The Nikon is a little heavier, but it has a wider field of view. I would favor the Nikon. I don't think you will notice the difference between a 10 and a 12, except the 12 will be heavier. I would stick with the 10 x 50. Looks like a good choice.
Personally i think the best binos are Steiner. You cant beat german engineering. I have several pairs of Steiner and they are excellent. I would recommend the Steiner safari 8×22 or the Steiner Safari Pro 10×26 both are small and the quality is excellent.
